Sridevi, Nawazuddin & Akshaye Khanna Are All Set To Put You On The Edge Of Your Seat With ‘Mom’

Sridevi’s comeback film English Vinglish did phenomenally well at the box office. In fact, the audience was so taken with the film that they have been eagerly waiting to see Sridevi on the silver screen on a regular basis.

Well, she is soon hitting the big screen with yet another masterpiece called Mom. Unlike her last film, which was a light-hearted yet entertaining drama, this film is a dark thriller. While she carried English Vinglish on her own shoulders, Mom also stars some amazing actors like Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

The intriguing 66-second long teaser keeps you on the edge of your seat and reveals a very interesting plot. It almost has a paranormal touch to it. With a dark background and some thumping music, Mom promises to be a roller coaster ride.

Just before the end of the teaser, Sridevi asks a very interesting question – Galat aur bohot galat mein se chun na ho, toh aap kya chunenge?

Akshaye Khanna can be seen in two-three frames but it’s difficult to decipher his role in the film. However, watch out for Nawazuddin Siddiqui playing a bald old guy. His unrecognisable avatar will definitely pique your interest.

Without further ado, here’s the teaser:

Mom will hit the silver screens on July 14.

Interesting Facts About M. Night Shyamalan Movies

There are many famous directors in the world and most of them have made a name for themselves for either creating action-packed films (Michael Bay), dark and quirky films (Tim Burton), or plot-twist heavy thriller films (M. Night Shyamalan). But there is more to M. Night Shyamalan than his crazy plot twists. He actually once wrote a children’s film!

1. Sixth Sense was inspired by an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

According to M. Night, the film is based on the episode “The Tale of the Dream Girl”, where the premise was: the lead characters are being ignored by the friends/family and don’t understand that they are dead until the end of the episode.

2. M. Night does not like to use CGI.

So the crop circles in Signs were real. Well, real in the sense that they were made for the film. As far as we all know, M. Night has not had contact with aliens leaving crop circles.

3. M. Night Shyamalan wrote Stuart Little.

Yep. This film about a mouse that is adopted by a human family and plays soccer was co-written by M. Night Shyamalan. He did not, however, write Stuart Little 2.

4. The entire plot of Lady in the Water is based on a bedtime story M. Night Shyamalan wrote for his children.

5. M. Night wrote the screenplay for Unbreakable with Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson in mind.

He always anticipated the two actors agreeing to do the film. This was also their fourth film together, after Loaded Weapon 1 (1993), Pulp Fiction (1994), and Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995).

6. The Happening is the only movie of his in which M. Night does not physically appear.

He’s the voice of Joey, who calls out to Alma a few times in the film.

7. All of his films are set in, or very close to, Philadelphia.

The Village, which takes place in the woods and the town folk believe to be somewhere entirely else, takes place in Philadelphia. As proven by the security guard at the end of the film reading The Philadelphia Inquirer. The Last Airbender does not take place in Philadelphia (or “this” world), but some principle shots for the film were done there.

8. After Earth was the first film in over 20 years where M. Night accepted to direct a film that someone else wrote the screenplay for.

Will Smith personally asked him to direct the film, after wanting to work with the director for years. The film was poorly received critically and in the box office. We assume that he’s learned his lesson since then.

9. M. Night has habit of including car accidents in his films.

For example, in Sixth Sense Cole tells his mother about his powers while they’re stuck in traffic because of a car accident. In Signs, Graham’s wife is killed in a car accident, which coincidentally enough, M. Night was the driver at fault in that accident.

10. He put the entire cast of The Village through a 19th century “boot camp”.

This was done in order to prepare for the time period they were meant to portray and to give them a good feel for it.

Big Movies He Almost Directed

11. He was approached to direct films in the Harry Potter series, three separate times.

He was offered to direct the first film in the franchise, on the recommendation of his friend Steven Speilberg, but he turned it down due to commitments for Unbreakable. After the massive success of Signs, he was again approached to direct, for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and then later for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but he turned both films down to work on The Village and then his since-dismissed adaptation of Life of Pi.

12. He was approached to write and direct for the remake of Batman and the original Spider-Man films.

He was offered the chance to write and direct new versions of both Spider-Man (circa 2000) and Batman (circa 2002), but having already directed a superhero project, Unbreakable, he turned them down.

13. He was also approached to direct The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

Could you imagine the plot-twist he’d have with Aslan in mind? We can only guess.

10 Amazing and Interesting Facts About April Fool’s Day 2017

While you go about making a fool of yourself and your friends, here are ten fascinating facts about the day that you probably didn’t know yet. (Source: Thinkstock Images) While you go about making a fool of yourself and your friends, here are ten fascinating facts about the day that you probably didn’t know yet. (Source: Thinkstock Images)

Beware, because for all you know, somebody is thinking of a ‘fool-proof’ plan to make you an April Fool! April 1 is not just the beginning of another month, it also happens to be dedicated to a majority of the human population (just kidding). With a giveaway name itself, April Fool’s Day is celebrated across the world by people pulling a prank or two on their loved ones and friends. While you go about making a fool of yourself and your friends, here are ten fascinating facts about the day that you probably didn’t know yet.

* Earliest recorded April Fool’s celebration began in 1932, when ‘Syn March bigan thritty dayes and two’ — an error in a copy of Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales changed its whole meaning. This was when the original line of the copy meant 32 days after March that is May 2, but readers misunderstood it for March 32 or April 1, and thus began the April Fool’s celebration.

* The Romans during the ancient times used to celebrate the festival of Hilaria or the day of jokes. Also known as the Roman Laughing Day, the festival was a day of joy and merry-making, which people celebrated on the March equinox in the honour of Cybele, the mountain mother or the Anatolian Earth goddess. Masquerades, games and amusements were prominent during this festival.

* Apparently, in the year 1974 on April Fool’s Day, a man set 70 tires on fire on a dormant volcano in Alaska. The locals of the place thought that the volcano had erupted and got scared.

* In 2002, NASA reportedly posted the moon’s photo on April Fool’s Day. While that’s absolutely ordinary, they tried to prove that the moon was made of cheese and even had an expiry date, with the photo!

* Apparently, Boese of the Museum of Hoaxes had pointed out that April Fool’s is the day when inequalities in the society could openly be confronted and showed down. For instance, the street urchins of the 1800s reportedly used to play tricks on the elite gentlemen of London.

* Apparently, in Scotland, the day used to be known as “Hunt the Gowk Day”, in which, Gowk is Scottish for a foolish person. A traditional prank on this day was said to involve sending the ‘fool’ to deliver a sealed message that read “Dinna laugh, dinna smile. Hunt the gowk another mile.” And thus the fool continued to go from door to door, until he realised what was going on or someone sympathised with him.

* Even the BBC reportedly joined in the April Fool’s Day celebrations with a spoof documentary on “spaghetti crops”. The documentary showed a family that was carrying out its yearly spaghetti harvest, by plucking them off trees and laying them to dry under the sun. The channel was apparently called by a lot of viewers following the broadcast, all wondering if spaghetti trees were a thing!

* Search engine Google is known for its rad April Fool’s jokes every year, that a lot of people, no matter what, continue to fall for. In 2013, they unveiled the Google Wallet Mobile ATM that claimed it could attach itself to most smartphones that men use and could hence be used to “dispense money instantly and effortlessly”. “If your mobile ATM is running low on funds, a self-driving, armored, hybrid vehicle will be alerted and dispatched to your location–arriving within minutes to quickly and safely refill [your] ATM,” the plan reportedly claimed. And not surprisingly, when it finally decided to unveil its Gmail service on April 1, 2004, a lot of people assumed it to be another joke!

* The BBC did not just get people to wonder if there was after all scope for spaghetti trees and plants to grow on this earth, they also in 1976, managed to convince their listeners that the Earth’s gravity would temporarily decrease because of a special alignment of planets. Interestingly, quite a lot of people claimed they felt the ‘effects’ and phoned in to tell them so.

* Apparently, in the 1960s, there was just one black and white TV channel in Sweden. People were ‘one day’ gifted with the good news that they could change their channel’s display colour and all they had to do was pull a ‘nylon stocking over the screen’.

Guru movie review: Ritika Singh is the star of this Venkatesh movie

Guru movie review: Venkatesh and Ritika Singh starrer is an interesting watch. Guru movie review: Venkatesh and Ritika Singh starrer is an interesting watch.

Guru starring Victory Venkatesh, Ritika Singh and Mumtaz Sorcar is directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by ynot productions. The movie is a remake of popular bilingual sports drama, Irudhi Suttru or Saala Khadoos starring R Madhavan in the lead role.

Sudha Kongara has managed to recreate the magic of the original movie with Guru, and in certain places this one is better in terms of depth to each character. The relationship of the coach Aditya Rao (Venkatesh) and Rameshwari alias Ramudu (Ritika) offers some refreshing moments. Lakshmi, Ramudu’s sister, is played by Mumtaz Sorcar, who was also seen in the original.

The antagonist, the Chief Coach of Women’s Boxing Team Dev, played by Zakir Hussain, who was also part of the original, has given a stronger performance in Guru. Though his character is not etched out well, the actor has managed to grab the attention of the audience, especially in the last 30 minutes of the film.

A few scenes do look to be exactly the same as the original. Close up shots of Ramudu, a few scenes of the song sequences, and almost all the songs. But it suits the film, and cinematographer KA Sakthivel has done a great job. In particular, the song O Sakkanoda has been shot beautifully and the climax scene has been executed beautifully.

The songs might not be a surprise for those who have heard the Tamil or Hindi version, but the visuals in combination with the lyrics still manages to make an impression. The best of them being Jingidi that is sung by Venkatesh.

Zaakir’s character sure has a lot of scope for improvement, and the screenplay could have been better. It would also have been interesting if the director had tried to give us something different.

Overall, it is a good watch. It is a good sports drama with an important message. Venkatesh’s frustration with the politics in the sports committee, Ramudu’s rapport for her coach, and the dialogues are the highlights of this film. Ritika Singh did manage to steal the show, yet again. Venkatesh has managed to make this his own – gruff at places and soft at others.
